Unbelievable experiences with this awful company.
-Booked weeks in advance
-Turned up at the airport to collect the car
-The desk was closed despite being within their opening hours
-Spent an hour trying to contact someone. One Support agent provided me the number I'd just called to get through to them as the person to contact.
-Was given two options, wait until they open at 8am the next day or travel 2.5 hours to a different Europcar
-Had to make my own arrangements overnight
-Turned up the next morning
-Was told that they no longer had the car
I'm now fighting to get my money back. This company is unbelievable.

I rented a car from Europcar El Calafate, Argentina. I planned on driving over to Chile for a few days and returning to Argentina. But due to the pandemic break out, Argentina closed their borders and shortly after so did Chile. We had no option but to return the vehicle to the nearest Europcar in Chile, Punta Arenas. Europcar Chile said we should not worry as it is out of everybody's control what is happening, and so it is.
We returned the car earlier than what we would have needed to and flew to Balamaceda, Chile where we rented another car from Europcar for more than a month. We had great service from Europcar Balmaceda with no issues. I have spent a lot of money on renting cars from Europcar and specifically decided to use Europcar due to being an international company. I would have considered smaller companies if I knew that Europcar had the same way of scamming their customers.
Upon my return to the UAE and being able to see my Credit Card Statement I saw a huge amount deducted from my credit card. I queried this with Europcar El Calafate and indeed it was them who deducted
US$1 665 from my Credit Card without authorisation.
This is totally unacceptable.
Nobody can be held responsible for what a government decides to do in these situations. Airlines, Cruise Ships, Hotels all had to refund their customers. How can Europcar just decide on this deduction with no consideration for the situation?
I trust you will consider this situation unpresidented and refund the unauthorised deduction.
I will go to great lengths to make everybody aware of unfair dealings at Europcar if this is not resolved. I work in a big multi national company and will make it known on all our platforms to be aware when dealing with Europcar. All social media outlets will be used to maximise exposure to this as well.

Cancun airport branch.
These thieves claim (like a lot of renters at Cancun airport, it's all a big scam) that you must get their uber-expensive mandatory insurance, quadrupling the cost of your rental (that you have already paid online, therefore you are stuck).
I have a credit card covering all car rental insurances BUT their sneaky terms say you must show a letter addressed to them saying your insurance works in Mexico specifically. This is an absolute lie and no other car rental in Mexico requires this. Only this airport. Thievery.
So. Take a bus and go and rent from anywhere else in Mexico. Your wallet will thank you and hopefully we bankrupt these thieves. There are also non branded renters that take you off the airport and those are OK if you are brave enough!
EUROPCAR IS A FRAUDELENT COMPANY. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS AT ALL!!!!
They have been stealing money from the card and have not refunded the money in over 6 weeks now.
I did a follow up with them, and they said the refund had already gone through when the vehicle was returned.
My partner has not had her money refunded whatsoever. The only thing that could be seen was money being taken out from Melbourne on 2 different days. When discussed with head office, this was said their head office is in Melbourne. Made no sense to me. Why was the money taken on 2 different occassions????? And why hasn't the full refund been returned??
Guys, please DO NOT use Europcar.
This will be taken to court and ACCC!!!
I am disabled and, because someone hit my car whilst I wasn’t in it, was supplied with a Europcar vehicle by my insurance company, while my own vehicle was repaired. I explicitly requested a car with raised seats (SUV type) a month before, because of the difficulty I have getting in and out of a lower car but a low slung saloon was delivered. I phoned Europcar SIX times to ask for a replacement and, eventually, got through to my local branch - it was, frankly, like talking to a brick wall and a week after requesting a replacement vehicle I am still stuck with a totally unsuitable car and am, effectively, house bound. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS UTTERLY APPALLING!
We rented in Maderia, Portugal, and the experience was not that positive. Although our rental voucher clearly said that there was nothing further to pay at collection we were charged an airport fee. We argued with the booking agent and Europcar agreed not to push this charge through when we returned the car. Guess what? Yes, they charged us. Now we are fighting for our money back.
In Madeira there are several local companies, Centauro, MadeiraRent, Insular etc, and they all seem to be better that the international brands.
My recommendation is to not use Europcar here.
Misleading advertising, won’t provide what was booked, and the customer service answer is ‘if you are unhappy cancel your booking’.
Booked a Pajero vehicle which is a 4WD vehicle for an outback trip in Australia. Expedia made the booking with Europcar. Europcar and Expedia changed the booking to a 2WD and claimed it is a ‘similar’ vehicle. Not similar at all when it can’t be driven on the road. Multiple escalations and Expedia claim the issue is with Europcar and Europcar claim the issue is with Expedia. Expedia send multiple status updates each time getting the issue and booking wrong. Our only path forward is to make a new much more expensive booking as it is now last minute over Christmas versus a month ago. We will be pursuing through Trading Standards and Small Claims Court.
I am writing this complaint, not only to show my disappointment on the overall customer support service, but also your lack of interest during the past months to address the issue.
On Friday, 24/07/2020 my friend rented a car at Europcar’s location in Eindhoven centre. Long story short, the car had a breakdown failure while we were in Germany, which Europcar attributes to us due to wrong fuel usage. This is something which baffles us, since we are sure we used the correct fuel, at least the one that was on the car’s sticker. We cannot proof otherwise, so we’ll leave it as is.
After break down and calling Europcar on Saturday 25th evening, we were redirected to Allianz and then later to Peugeot, given that the car was under Peugeot’s warranty. After quite an effort to get the correct support, we manage to get assistance called by Peugeot. ADAC diagnose was a broken spark inside the motor, and car could not be fixed. A trailer was called and the Peugeot assistance told us that transportation will be arranged to go back to holiday location. The car was tolled but transportation had to be arranged by us – first surprise.
Following more calls to Peugeot, we were told that a car would be arranged for us at 07:00 in the morning of Monday 27/07/2020, nothing available for Sunday 26th. The car was not present at 07:00 and we got no call informing of such change – second surprise.
We were also told by that the car needed to be returned to be returned to Germany. This of course would not be possible, since we had to return to the Netherlands – third surprise.
Contacting Europcar once more and explaining the situation, we were told to wait while people worked on the case. After multiple calls with a need for me to keep on calling to collect feedback of the status, around 12:00 we were redirected to Eurocross services and we were proposed to be proactive looking for a deal. You have read it correctly, we were at this time aligning 2 parties together and we were the customer. From our initially agreed time to have a car (07h00), it took us many calls, alignment and extra trips (taxi paid by us) to arrive at another Europcar’s office around 18h00, 1h30min away from our location.
In the end, after such a long day (and weekend) of trying to get the situation fixed, we finally got another rental car at 18h00. We have not included the numerous calls we had to have between Allianz, Europcar and Eurocross. It still amazes me how from broken-down car on Saturday evening, Europcar could not provide an alternative until Monday 18h, and only after a lot of pushing from us.
For me, Europcar is now only a low-tier rental car company name, with low quality and low coverage in the countries they officially operate in, like Germany and The Netherlands. I could have not expected worser service.
Most of the Europcar sites are just full of scams and they charge hidden costs, NEVER TRUST THIS COMPANY, I would rather work with a car rental with a slow and annoying pickup than a dishonest one.
I personally experienced this with the Lisbon site but the Belgian site did not help at all, it is just disgusting ho they treat their customers, they also just deduct money from your credit card without your approval.
I have rented from them 2 times in London UK and the cars were clean and serviceable, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and the transaction was painless.
Awful business practices. Terrible way of dealing with customers. it's shocking to see this in 2020...
Agents are not able to give any explanations, and when you want to complain about one incident they send you an email saying they will take weeks to respond...
Useless company
Would not recommend using, the fees are high and customer service is awful!
